The 42nd Chronicle
Hello family and friends!
One thing I've tried to work on during my mission is letting go of my desire to be in control. In truth, I can only control myself! I can't control others. I can't control my comp. I can't control the people we're teaching. I can't control the weather. I can't control the exact outcome of my expectations. That has been a big thing on my mission. I want to control it all, but all I can control is myself. It's been a cool experience to shift my focus. Rather than trying to control something I can't… I'm taking control of something I can.
Soooo. We had a blizzard! Nothing too crazy though. Stake Conference didn't get semi-rescheduled or anything, the mall didn't close early, the roads weren't covered in huge snowdrifts, a lot people didn't almost wreck, and it wasn't a record snow storm for the state of Nebraska. J/k. All of those happened. Basically it was a party!! We had two big storms this last week. Good amount of snow too. After the first storm Elder Bocchino and I felt like we should go help people shovel their driveways. As we drove around helping people we passed this YSA girl standing next to her snow-buried-car with a snow shovel. Elder Bocchino and I looked at each other and immediately pulled the car over to help her. She was super nice and as we unburied her car we talked about who we are and what we do. She was so grateful that she invited us in to meet her roommates. We walked away from that encounter with Dove dark chocolate wrappers, drained mugs of hot cocoa, an hour or two spent, five new people to teach, and some super sweet new friends. It was awesome! Success in the good old WQ YSA.
Something that was been a lot of fun while serving in the YSA is getting to play volleyball and basketball each week! It is super cool to be able to not only invite people to learn more about the gospel but also invite them to come play with us. I’ve learned that with everyone we teach we have to become friends before we can really start teaching someone. They need to know that we are human and that we care. Playing volleyball and basketball has helped us be able to do that with those we are working with. Plus, who doesn't love sports?!? I will say that I have gotten a lot better at playing after having so much consistent practice! =)
I'd really enjoy hearing your thoughts on something! What is the difference between LOVE and TRUST? How do they correlate? Why are they important in a relationship? And, how do we build or strengthen those qualities in ourselves and in others?
Kia Kaha!
