The 59th Chronicle

Hello family and friends!

Ever heard of Wing Chun? Yeah, well neither had I. Wing Chun is a Chinese Martial Art developed by masters long ago in a time of desperation. They needed to quickly teach a large group of people to defend themselves. Wing Chun teaches one to use the lowest common denominator, protect your center line, use basic principles of nature, flow like water, use the exact amount of energy needed, look at nothing but see everything, keep your structure, never give up, be focused, and to follow the idea of ying yang. How do I know all of this? Because we met an Advanced Student of Wing Chun in our area last week (a.k.a. Brother Sutton)!! We've been going over each week to receive some workout training from him. It has been so cool. I've wanted to learn some kind of self-defense for a long time.

We had exchanges last week with the Shenandoah Elders. I went with Elder Logan. Our ride down was pretty eventful. As we headed down I-29 we expected to be able to get off on the closest exit to Shenandoah but that was foiled by the flooding. The next five exits were closed too! It took forever to get past the flooding to an open exit that allowed us to backtrack to where we needed to go. Nebraska and Iowa are still very much under water. Elder Logan and I worked hard at contacting formers which turned out well! We found a couple of people for them to teach just by making a couple of phone calls. I love getting to help my Zone see success in their own area. My favorite part was having dinner at a member's half-finished mansion. It's three stories tall (each floor is like 9'+ ceilings) with a basement (and cellar). They have a latch on their roof so that you can access the roof patio. They have a platform on top of their roof where they can host guests. The entrance to their home is gorgeous. As you walk in you can look up from the main floor to the ceiling of the third floor which is extended. It's like the center of the home was cored out. It's impressive. I could go on and on but the gist is that I'm so glad I didn't have to run the electrical for that home.

Our Zone Council went so well!! We had our whole Zone up for training. We discussed how to use the YES list, how we are going to be able to logistically hit our goals, and how to turn outward like the "Character of Christ". We watched a video about "The Good Samaritan" and looked at how we can minister to others and each other. Everyone participated and shared some sweet insights. My favorite idea from the whole council was the difference between #IKnockDoors and #WeBaptizeNations. Either we can do the work alone selfishly with little success/happiness or we can do the work together selflessly with tons or success/joy. Pretty sweet!

Kia Kaha!
