The 66th Chronicle
Hello family and friends!
From personal experience I can testify that Satan will often discourage you right before miraculous experiences! Time after time in my life I have seen this. I may be preparing to find, teach, or even attend the temple and without fail the adversary is right there. He will fill my mind with doubt, discouragement, or crude thoughts. It can be so frustrating! While it is never fun to encounter the powers of darkness, I can also testify that if we will push through with tenacity, we. will. be. victorious! Call upon the Lord for deliverance and he will not fail you. You know what else? Past every attack is light and beauty. In the next moment you will have the opportunity to experience something truly remarkable. Why? Because Satan does not want you to experience miracles.
Elder Halsell and I got a huge compliment this week! We were in a lesson with our friend Nick, and as we listened to his story he stopped mid-sentence. He then stumbled over his words. Eventually, with some effort, he attempted to describe what he saw. He said, "You guys are awesome. You don't have to sit here and listen to me. You could've left long ago! That's crazy what you guys give up to be here. You're better than me but you're not better than me. There is a light in your eyes and the strength in who you are. We're equal but you've done better things than me and that's what makes you better but not. You are way ahead of people like me because of your obedience to what you know to be true." It was humbling as Nick helped me remember how powerful the gospel is. He was seeing the light and power of Christ in us. It is through the Atonement of Christ that we have become who we are. The gospel gives us the chance to be pure. He recognized that and wanted it. We truly share the gospel wherever we go... and sometimes we use words to do so.
We had Stake Conference this last week and the adult session was fantastic! The discussion was focused on self-reliance, repentance, and ministering to others. We had speakers share about mental health, addiction, financial self-reliance, BYU Pathway, and becoming Zion. I learned a lot. I appreciated how the Stake President brought topics that were targeted towards the needs of the members. Each speaker was very open, authentic, and real about their successes AND struggles. It was endearing and inspiring. One of my biggest take aways was that we don't become Zion by accident but on purpose. We become Zion as we actively strive to implement characteristics of Christ and follow his example. Powerful!
