The 68th Chronicle
Hello family and friends!
Fun fact! My companion is a recent convert of only three years. Hearing his story is so inspiring. It shows me the power of continually inviting those you love to come closer to Christ. He grew up aware of and around the church his whole life, but no one invited him to learn more until he was 18 years old. That was when consistent invites from a co-worker and a desire to come closer to God propelled Elder Halsell into greater study. He attended church with his brothers while the three of them continued the gospel conversation. It wasn't long until his less-active parents decided to follow suit and the missionaries were contacted. Two weeks later he was baptized. I love stories like that! Just because we may live in areas with a high population of members doesn't mean there are no missionary opportunities. Who do you wish was sitting next to you at church?
We found a super cool contact this week! We were knocking doors and met a girl who is going to college. She was really interested in our message. She basically invited herself to church and came this last Sunday. She loved it! Members came up and introduced themselves and a member of the Relief Society invited her to sit with them. She had lots of questions and was excited about the answers we gave her. She left feeling very welcome. This was the first time she has been to any church in awhile. In that initial visit she had also asked us for a copy of the Book of Mormon. As she has read, she told us she has felt herself coming closer to God. So cool! I live for moments and experiences like this.
Quote of the Week: "As teachers of the gospel, we are to be spiritual arsonists. Our lessons are to be incendiary devices. We are to be pyromaniacs. Remember, [those you teach are] . . . not a container to be filled but a fire to be ignited. Until you feel passionately about something, you cannot possibly ever make those you teach feel passionately about it. To accomplish this, you have to be yourself. You can’t be a Bruce R. McConkie or Boyd K. Packer or Russell M. Nelson. Learn all you can from the great teachers (past and present), but of course, in the end, you have to teach naturally; you have to teach your way - and the result should be powerful, authoritative teaching.” - Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
