The 82nd Chronicle
Hello family and friends!
Alrighty folks. Sit back and imagine with me for a second. You're driving south on the local highway coming into Lincoln, NE and you look up to see in the distance a herd of cars piled up on the three-lane road. You slow down and then come to a complete halt. It's stop-and-go traffic on this brisk Saturday morning. You remember the Husker Football game is later today, but that's still hours away so you're a little confused why the roads are so clogged. As you make your way into downtown you begin to see why. A sea of red covers the sidewalks, cross-walks, parking lots, and local shops. An unbroken stream of people begin to pour into Memorial Stadium as your jaw drops. Local law enforcement personally directs vehicles and pedestrians across the whole city with whistles and cones. Fans sport their team pride in an array of swag. Even the babies rock their gear. You can feel a surge of energy in the air. Aside from the stadium becoming the third largest city in Nebraska (on game day) thousands and thousands of people are watching the TV or listening for updates on the radio as they cheer "Go Big Red!” Never have I seen more support for a football team. It's on every street, in every business, and broadcasted through all forms of media. Not just Lincoln but the whole state of Nebraska backs their football team. It's insane. So what do you do? Either get out as soon as you can or join the hoard. We joined the hoard. #OurRedBurnsBrighter
I went to my first AA meeting this last week. That was cool! If you didn't already know, AA is Alcoholics Anonymous and is an addiction recovery group which is famous for its 12-step program combined with weekly support meetings. Well, the church adopted AA's program and developed their own. Anyways, someone we are teaching invited us to attend with them so we could hear them share their story. Each person in AA is part of a community. They are a group of people who are honest and recognize their faults. They know they have made bad choices, but they are doing something about it. As we got to hear the real life experiences of these people I was touched. It's not easy but they keep pushing through temptation and relapse. I'm an advocate of anyone who realizes they need help and takes action. The 12-step program and meetings are phenomenal. Highly recommend.
