The 95th Chronicle
Hello family and friends!
Last week we got a call in the early afternoon from Hermano Sanez. He told us that Hermano Cardiel just contacted him saying he had been waiting the last 30 minutes for us. We were confused and asked why? Turns out poor Hermano Cardiel had signed up to feed us dinner that day and had assumed that dinner meant lunch, cause... it's the Midwest. Dinner for us white boys from Utah means well, dinner. But up here, it's actually pronounced 'supper'. With limited miles (he lived 30 minutes away), a day already planned (we weren't planning on going there so early), and a tad bit of frustration (because we had tried calling him a day in advance to confirm if we were still good, with no response), but with love in our hearts for this kind brother who had woken up early to make us authentic enchiladas...we headed out directly. Hermano Cardiel was very grateful we arrived and treated us right. Those were dang good enchiladas! We apologized for the misunderstanding. The best part is he stood up to bear his testimony in church yesterday, but needed Bishop to translate for him. In the middle of his testimony he started sharing how we didn't show up to dinner and how sad he was. Bishop is relating this, in sacrament meeting, over the pulpit. I died. Bishop gave us a funny disappointed look and under his breath said, "Elders". He shook his head, then looking up…he smiled and laughed.
