The 96th Chronicle

Hello family and friends!

How does one adequately describe an experience unlike any other? Missionary service is THE opportunity to consecrate yourself to Heavenly Father. Imagine dedicating yourself for a significant portion of life. What does that feel like? To be set apart as a representative of Jesus Christ and given the charge to preach his gospel. To be motivated by a love for God and neighbor. To be fulfilled everyday as you invite and help God's children to come unto their Savior. How does one express the joy that fills your soul? In my attempt to answer this I have struggled with the words and I may never be able to share how much I love this work. The moments seem to come with an impact that I can't anticipate. It's when I have felt the Spirit direct my studies or we contacted a receptive soul on the street. It's after a solid planning session where we feel confident in our scheduled tasks or getting a text from someone we're teaching after they read a chapter of the Book of Mormon. It's on the drive home (in the dark) as we listen to music when I realize all the tender mercies of the day. It's at the completion of a well-executed lesson in which we saw the light of the gospel in the eyes of those we are teaching. Those are the moments when I feel it the most. As if the Lord reaches down to touch my soul with a motivating energy to let me know that this is His work and He is pleased with my efforts. Can you describe an experience such as this adequately? I don't think so. I can't think of another way to understand than by living it yourself.

Hai had her baptismal interview yesterday. She just beamed! What a cool opportunity to see her walk out of the interview room with that bright smile on her face. These are the moments I live for. No one can tell me this isn't Christ's original church restored upon the earth. Otherwise, how do you explain the power in the Book of Mormon? The cleansing effect of Jesus Christ's Atonement? Or, the happiness that comes as we obey God's commandments? Over the last few weeks she has shared with us how she has felt the fire of the Holy Ghost and the peace in the scriptures. When someone gets it, truly gets it, I can't help but praise the Lord!

To continue on this theme, have you ever considered why you are still here? Why are you still an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? What keeps bringing you back? Consider that, check out this article, and send me your thoughts...
